From the teacher 20 June

Lot's of exciting things have been happening with Team Kereru and Room 23 this term. Some of the highlights have been:
Technology
The pupils have been creating some amazing things in Technology as part of the PREP Programme.
This has been happening on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. Some of the designs have included hackey sacks, wheat bags, LP record bowls, skateboard ramps, money jars, pencil holders, squishy balls, magic rocks, wooden guns, boomerangs, bow and arrows and car posters.
Parents and school pupils will be invited to purchase these items when we have our market on the last week of the term.
Literacy
Pupils have produced some terrific procedural writing and also some very descriptive writing. These will be posted on the blog.
Maths
We have been working hard on multiplication and division facts. They you for supporting your pupils at home. Our next unit starting this week will be fractions.
Spelling Bee
Congratulations to Sheylea More for winning the annual spelling bee competition. This was a fantastic effort as she was competing against the Year 6's as well. Gaeleigh Morrison was placed 3rd, another terrific result. They will both represent our school at the Papamoa finals next week. Good luck to our amazing Room 23 spellers.
Ms Colonna
It has been a pleasure having Skye Colonna, our teacher trainee in our class this term. She has been very enthusiastic and creative. She has also assisted with the Kapa Haka group and with coaching the Year 5 Netball team. A highlight has been the amazing creative Atua art that the pupils have produced. Please pop in and views these displays. They will also be on the blog. Ms Colonna will finish at the end of next week and we hope to see her back.
We will be putting on a shared lunch to celebrate her practicum next Thursday 27 July. Parents are welcome to attend.
Beach Games trip
Room 23 along with Mrs Saunders class will be visiting Evans Road beach in the middle block on Thursday 27 July for some beach games. Parents are welcome. Pupils will need: drink/ warm clothing.
There is no cost. We will be returning by lunchtime for the shared lunch.
